KC Chiefs: It’s baffling how easy Patriots schedule is through six weeks

KC Chiefs fans have been following along closely with the Patriots this season, as they know that’ll be the team they have to beat come January. To this point, New England has been cruising against some less than stellar opponents.

When the 2019 season got underway, Kansas City Chiefs fans knew that come January, their biggest obstacle would be the New England Patriots. The two squared off in the AFC Championship Game last year, with the Patriots winning it in Arrowhead.

If all goes according to plan, this year should provide us with the same match-up, but it very well could take place in Foxborough this time around, and a lot of that is because the Patriots have been playing tiddlywinks to this point of the season.

Here is who the Patriots have played through the first five weeks of the season and who they’ll play in week six:

• Week 1 – Steelers
• Week 2 – @ Dolphins
• Week 3 – Jets
• Week 4 – @ Bills
• Week 5 – @ Redskins
• Week 6 – Giants (TNF)

Those six teams have a COMBINED record of 5-18, and if you count the Giants, 7-22. Four of those seven wins came via the Buffalo Bills and three of the six opponents have yet to win a game. Pathetic.

Look, I know teams can only play who is on their schedule, so this isn’t New England’s fault.

The problem here is that they’re being crowned as this great team when they’ve played next to nobody to this point. Their defense has been praised as a tremendous one, but that’s easy to do when you’re playing against the likely 0-16 Dolphins, the Jets third string quarterback, and a pitiful Redskins team.

The only team that has been remotely decent was the Bills in week four and they gave the Patriots everything they had. New England’s offense struggled in that one.

New England benefits greatly from playing in a weak AFC East and that’s been what’s helped them for years. They’ve never had a tough opponent in their division, which isn’t something the Kansas City Chiefs have been able to benefit from.

No, every year the Chiefs are fighting off someone, whether it’s the Chargers (like the last two years), Raiders (like in 2016), or the Broncos (2011-2015). It must be nice to have five or or even six easy wins every year.

The good news is that, believe it or not, the Patriots do have some REAL teams on their schedule! From weeks nine to 13, the Patriots will face the Ravens, Eagles, Cowboys, Texans, and Chiefs. Three of those five games are road games, so hopefully those will result in losses for New England.

It’s going to be another insufferable season of watching the Patriots cruise to a division title and likely home field advantage despite really not playing anyone to this point. Hopefully when that difficult five game stretch comes, this team gets overmatched. I won’t hold my breath though.

It’s the Patriots’ world and we’re all just living in it.
